Documentary Film About Reaching The World Stage of Public Speaking
To Screen March 28 in Laguna Niguel

A powerful and widely praised documentary film about six Toastmasters and their journey to the world championship of public speaking will be shown at a special screening on Monday, March 28 at 7pm in Laguna Niguel.
The one-night event will be held at Regency Rancho Niguel Theater, 25471 Rancho Niguel Road, Laguna Niguel. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased online in advance before March 21. The screening is open to the public.
Hosted by a Mission Viejo Toastmaster, the event is the High Performance Leadership (HPL) project of Heather Frankos, a member of the Saddleback Sunrise Speakers breakfast club in Laguna Hills. She joined Toastmasters in 2014. After completing her Competent Communicator award in February, she decided to get started on her HPL project.
“I discovered this documentary and watched the trailer which captured my interest because of its strong emotional appeal. “I’m very excited about this project and want all Toastmasters to see this film.” Frankos said that all proceeds will pay for the cost of holding the event at the theater.
Speak tells the story of six Toastmasters and their struggle to reach the world championship of public speaking at Alberta, Canada in 2008. It has been praised for telling a powerful, funny and inspiring story about conquering life’s number one fear and finding your voice.
Toastmasters International gave the producers exclusive rights to film the contestants and the final contest. Director Brian Weidling said, “We knew we had fascinating characters from a totally original world. We knew we had a story. We had what we wanted. And somewhat unexpectedly, our story had a point that we feel is universal and profound.”
Reviews have been extremely positive. The Los Angeles Times reported, “This film is the stuff of impassioned storytelling.” And the New York Times said, “The film delivers an unexpected jolt.”
Frankos is currently serving as her club’s secretary and just accepted a temporary assignment as Area Director, G1 where she will supervise four clubs in Division G in South Orange County.
